Plot[]
Not Since The Attack[]
Doctor Myers apologises for having no activities of interest for you today. She and Sam discuss the state of his investigation, explaining that Bert Airfield is on total lockdown, since someone's been stealing supplies from them.
Another Question[]
You overhear Janine asking Runner Eight if anyone saw them meet. She responds in the negative, but says she'll need to be quick so no-one notices she's gone. Janine asks if Runner Eight has made contact with you yet. She says she hasn't had a chance. Janine asks if that means you are unaware of the reason Mullins sent the helicopter to Abel. Runner Eight says she doesn't think you know. They both wonder if they can trust you.
Perfectly Aware[]
You overhear Runner Eight ask Janine if she's heard anything from Mullins. Janine replies that they've been very cagey since the rocket launcher attack that brought down your helicopter. Runner Eight suggests someone must have known the helicopter was on its way. Janine says she understands the implication that someone may have broken her code.
Transmissions[]
Runner Eight asks Janine if she knows what Mullins are looking for. She says she does, but it's classified. They go their separate ways, with Janine agreeing to let Runner Eight know if she has any contact with Mullins and Runner Eight agreeing to keep Janine informed about "the situation with Runner Five".
Shotgun[]
Sam notices that an area behind the hospital isn't showing on the scanners today. He wonders if something brought the cameras down. Doctor Myers assures him they're fine - she checked there today herself. He reminds her they don't need any way for zombies to enter the township and she jokes about having a fully loaded shotgun in the hospital.
Portal 2[]
Doctor Myers apologises for how dull today's run was, and rewards you with a pass to the rec centre. She and Sam bicker about playing Portal 2 together.
Transcript[]
MAXINE MYERS: Runner Five, it’s the doctor here. Start your five-minute warm-up walking. I know we usually like to find something fun for you to do on your workouts, but I’m afraid today’s going to be pretty dull.
SAM YAO: There’s just nothing much going on. I’m still waiting for a few pingbacks from different bases nearby.
MAXINE MYERS: And we need to check out that lead at Bert Airfield.
SAM YAO: Right. But they’re in severe lockdown, I hear.
MAXINE MYERS: How did you hear that?
SAM YAO: I uh, have my methods.
MAXINE MYERS: And your methods consist of -?
SAM YAO: Yeah, well, basically talking to Runner Twelve after he tried going in there to shelter from some zoms.
MAXINE MYERS: Runner Twelve? That guy who calls himself “El Kwargho”?
SAM YAO: [laughs] Yeah, that guy. Anyway, he said they shot at him as soon as he got anywhere close. Something about how you’re not allowed in without supplies since there’s someone been stealing theirs.
MAXINE MYERS: Yeah, that figures. So nothing doing.
SAM YAO: Well, they’re our best hope of tracking down Frances, though. They’re probably in frequent communication with the north.
MAXINE MYERS: Plus they get those air transports coming in.
SAM YAO: Yeah, well, they won’t come anywhere near us anymore.
MAXINE MYERS: Well, not since the rocket launcher attack.
MAXINE MYERS: You’re halfway done with the warm-up, Runner Five!
SAM YAO: Nothing even going on in Abel, huh?
MAXINE MYERS: Nothing. Just carry on, Runner Five. Do loops of Abel. Might as well see all the sights we have to offer today.
MAXINE MYERS: Okay, that’s good! Now you’re going straight into that 10-minute free-form run. I know you know this, but just remember that you get to decide how much to walk and how much to run. Just do your very best.
MAXINE MYERS: Great pace. You’ve done three minutes.
MAXINE MYERS: Five minutes. That’s good, Runner Five.
MAXINE MYERS: Three minutes. Keep strong.
MAXINE MYERS: Last minute.
MAXINE MYERS: And that’s your 10 minutes done! Now we’re going to do those half squats. Remember, stick your arms out in front of you and lower yourself as if you’re going to sit down, and only go as far as feels comfortable, then come back up. Give me 10 squats now.
JANINE DE LUCA: Did anyone see you meet me?
SARA SMITH: Don’t think so. We’ll have to be quick, though. Runner Seven will notice if I’m gone long.
JANINE DE LUCA: Have you made contact with Runner Five yet?
SARA SMITH: Not yet. Doesn’t seem worth it until -
JANINE DE LUCA: I understand. Once Runner Five is out in the field, you can actually be useful to one another. So Runner Five doesn’t know?
SARA SMITH: I think not. Not the reason Mullins sent over that chopper, or what’s happened here at Abel.
JANINE DE LUCA: But do you think we can trust Runner Five?
SARA SMITH: Well, that’s another question entirely.
MAXINE MYERS: That’s great, Runner Five! Take a quick break, and then give me 10 more.
SARA SMITH: Now, have you heard anything from Mullins?
JANINE DE LUCA: They’ve been very cagey with their coded transmissions since the rocket launcher.
SARA SMITH: Makes sense. Someone must have known why they were coming in.
JANINE DE LUCA: If you think I’m not aware of the implication that someone’s broken my code, you’re very wide of the mark.
SARA SMITH: It’s not just your ass on the line here!
JANINE DE LUCA: I’m perfectly aware of that. I’ve been here for a number of years, remember?
MAXINE MYERS: Great! Last set of half squats now. Another 10, and then we’ll be on our way.
SARA SMITH: Do you know what it is Mullins are looking for?
JANINE DE LUCA: Yes.
SARA SMITH: But you’re not allowed to tell me?
JANINE DE LUCA: It’s classified, yes.
SARA SMITH: One day, Janine. One day, a bottle of rum and a crafty spliff -
JANINE DE LUCA: Are you talking about trying to seduce me or trying to get classified information out of me?
SARA SMITH: [laughs] I don’t know which would be more difficult!
JANINE DE LUCA: They posted me here for a reason, you know.
SARA SMITH: I know, I know. Tight as a badger’s ass, you are, lord love you.
JANINE DE LUCA: So keep me abreast of the situation with Runner Five?
SARA SMITH: That I will. And you’ll keep me updated on transmissions from Mullins?
JANINE DE LUCA: Yes, ma'am.
MAXINE MYERS: Great work, Five! You’re looking good. Now do five minutes of fast walking.
SAM YAO: Hmm. Didn’t we say you should do full loops of Abel, Five? Why have you turned back?
MAXINE MYERS: I’m pretty sure Runner Five’s just trying to add some variety to this boring day, Sam.
SAM YAO: But it’s not impossible, right? That bit by the back of the hospital doesn’t come up on the scanners today. Something’s brought down one of the cameras.
MAXINE MYERS: No, no, it’s fine. I checked there myself this morning.
SAM YAO: Because we wouldn’t want a zom sneak attack.
MAXINE MYERS: Don’t worry. If they come and get me, I’ve got a shotgun always fully loaded by my hospital workstation.
SAM YAO: That… ought to sound worrying, but instead, I feel strangely comforted.
MAXINE MYERS: Looking good out there, Runner Five! You’re becoming a real runner now. Now our final set of exercises: three seven-minute free-form runs with two minutes for stretching between each set. You’re getting stronger and stronger each time you go out. Take up your running stance and go. Now!
MAXINE MYERS: That’s two minutes! Looking good.
MAXINE MYERS: Four minutes. Keep going.
MAXINE MYERS: Just one minute to go, Five. Great work!
MAXINE MYERS: That’s excellent, Runner Five! Now take two minutes to stretch, and then we’ll start again.
MAXINE MYERS: Finish your stretching now, Five, and you’ll be running again in 15 seconds.
MAXINE MYERS: Okay, Five, seven-minute free-form run. Go.
MAXINE MYERS: You’ve been running for two minutes, Five.
SAM YAO: Wow, Runner Five’s looking great out there!
MAXINE MYERS: That’s hard work and training paying off.
MAXINE MYERS: Four minutes done.
MAXINE MYERS: Just one more minute. Go hard!
MAXINE MYERS: That’s great, Five. Now stretch out for a couple of minutes, and then you’ll do your last run of the day.
MAXINE MYERS: Get ready now, Five. You’ll be starting again in 15 seconds.
MAXINE MYERS: So it’s the last run of the day, Five. Give it 100%. Go!
MAXINE MYERS: Two minutes done.
SAM YAO: Doesn’t Runner Five look sort of… thoughtful to you?
MAXINE MYERS: That’s the air of concentration we expect from every runner.
SAM YAO: Hmm. Probably a good thing I never tried to become a runner. I lose focus halfway through a – wait, is that a squirrel?
MAXINE MYERS: Four minutes gone, Runner Five. More than halfway through your run.
MAXINE MYERS: Final minute, Runner Five! Go strong!
MAXINE MYERS: Hey, Runner Five, well done for keeping going out there today! I’m sorry it was so dull, but you know, there’s just nothing going on today. But you’re done for now. Make sure to cool down and stretch. And here’s something to make your day a little less boring.
SAM YAO: Hey! Well, maybe we can play a bit of Portal 2 co-op together sometime, Five.
MAXINE MYERS: Weren’t we going to play it together?
SAM YAO: Well, it’s - it’s just that you never seem to have time.
MAXINE MYERS: I’ll make some time.
SAM YAO: I’ll hold you to that.
MAXINE MYERS: Okay, as usual, Five, take a couple of days off now, and see you back here next time when you’re ready to train.
