Plot[]
Talk As We Go[]
Doctor Myers has decided to come with you on today's training session.
Saved A Life[]
Doctor Myers passes on Runner Six's thanks for your help when she was injured.
Getting Fitter[]
Half-way through your warm-up, Doctor Myers compliments you on your progress and thanks you for your attitude.
Happy To Accompany[]
Janine hails Doctor Myers across Abel to inquire about Sam's health. Doctor Myers tries to brush her off, but Janine insists on accompanying you on your run.
What's He Planning[]
Janine presses Doctor Myers for information. Maxine assures her Sam's doing fine. Janine mentions something Sam is planning, but Maxine interrupts her.
Settlements[]
Janine asks if the rumours are true, that Sam is planning to make contact with other small settlements in the area.
Private Business[]
Janine presses Doctor Myers, who responds by questioning what Sam's private business has to do with Janine.
Useful Information[]
Janine insists that she wants to help Sam, agreeing that the two of them have had their differences, but that is irrelevant now: she believes she has some information which may be useful to Sam.
[]
Janine reveals that she's been in contact with nearby small settlements and has developed a system for sharing information secretly. She says that she and several others have been concerned about supplies going missing.
Lines Of Enquiry[]
Janine says her information could allow Sam to eliminate certain lines of enquiry, requiring you to visit fewer settlements in person.
Sure He Will[]
Janine says that, if Sam wants to take her up on her offer, he should let her know who to contact. Doctor Myers says she's sure he'll be in touch.
Generosity?[]
Doctor Myers asks Janine what's brought on this display of generosity; she's normally quite stingy with her personal resources.
Running Smoothly[]
Janine says she's aware of her reputation as an ogre, but insists that she acts only in the interests of keeping Abel running smoothly.
Best Wishes[]
Janine tells Doctor Myers to consider her offer of help an opportunity to test her systems. She's obviously playing up to her reputation. Doctor Myers finally relents, saying Sam will be grateful for the help, whatever the reason. Janine departs, leaving her best wishes for Sam.
Runner 8[]
Doctor Myers mentions how she often feels Janine is hiding something, but that she's always "nice as pie" around Runner 8, who you're yet to meet.
Strange Woman[]
Janine reappears from behind the shower tent, surprising Doctor Myers. She comes bearing a gift for you: a bar of soap.
Transcript[]
MAXINE MYERS: Runner Five, great to see you! I thought I’d come around Abel with you myself today to start a brand new week. Let’s get started with a five-minute warm-up walk, and uh, we can talk as we go.
MAXINE MYERS: Runner Six said to give you a big hug from her. She’s doing well, not in too much pain, and her wound seems to be clean. With luck, she’ll mend good as new, and she knows you were part of the team who saved her life.
MAXINE MYERS: Great! You’re halfway done with this warm-up walk. You know, it’s a real joy to work with someone like you. Most of my time I’m trying to heal injuries with not much more than a first aid kit or helping someone I’ve known and cared about to die peacefully before they turn. [laughs] Well, compared to that, seeing someone get fitter every day is a privilege. You’re doing well, Runner Five.
MAXINE MYERS: Okay, good! We’re going straight into a five-minute free-form run. Remember to listen to your body to decide how much you want to walk or run. I’ll come with you.
MAXINE MYERS: Great! Keep up a good pace. Three minutes left.
MAXINE MYERS: Last minute, now. Keep going.
MAXINE MYERS: And that’s your five minutes up! Now we’re going to do some drills together. We’re doing 30 seconds of walking, then 1 minute of slow running, then 6 heel lifts. You’re an old hand at this now, Five, so just get going. 30 seconds of walking.
MAXINE MYERS: Now one minute slow running.
MAXINE MYERS: 30 seconds to go.
MAXINE MYERS: Do those heel lifts now!
JANINE DE LUCA: Doctor Myers!
MAXINE MYERS: Janine, is there a problem at the hospital?
JANINE DE LUCA: Oh, forgive me, I spoke too sharply. No, I was simply - I was merely interested to know how Mister Yao is faring now.
MAXINE MYERS: You were, huh? Okay, Runner Five, you’re going to start those 30 seconds of walking. Janine, we’re training. Can I talk later?
JANINE DE LUCA: I’ll be happy to accompany you.
MAXINE MYERS: We’re going to be doing one minute of running, starting now. Go!
MAXINE MYERS: Now stop and give me six heel lifts.
JANINE DE LUCA: Quite a - [pants] brisk pace you’re setting there!
MAXINE MYERS: Out of shape, Janine?
JANINE DE LUCA: Not at all! Now, about Mister Yao -
MAXINE MYERS: Oh, hang on. That’s good, Runner Five. Give me 30 seconds walking.
JANINE DE LUCA: About Mister Yao, I was simply wondering how he’s faring.
MAXINE MYERS: He’s doing fine, Janine. As well as can be expected. It’s been a hard time for him.
JANINE DE LUCA: He’s not… I’d heard he was planning to -
MAXINE MYERS: Uh, wait. 60 seconds of running, Runner Five. Go!
MAXINE MYERS: Now stop and do those six heel lifts, Runner Five.
JANINE DE LUCA: [pants] Doctor Myers, I only wanted to ask you if the rumors are true that Mister Yao is planning to make contact with other small settlements in the area.
MAXINE MYERS: Good work, Runner Five! Now walk for 30 seconds.
JANINE DE LUCA: Well? Is it true?
MAXINE MYERS: [sighs] I am not sure what Sam’s private business has to do with you.
JANINE DE LUCA: Doctor Myers, I know that you’re just trying to protect Mister Yao, but you must listen. I -
MAXINE MYERS: [sighs] You’re doing well, Runner Five. Now run for one minute.
JANINE DE LUCA: I want to help, Doctor Myers! That’s all I’m trying to tell you. I want to help.
MAXINE MYERS: [sighs] Time for six more heel lifts, Five.
JANINE DE LUCA: I’m perfectly aware that Mister Yao and I… have our differences -
MAXINE MYERS: To say the least.
JANINE DE LUCA: Well, if he will insist on using my comms equipment without permission, on attempting to modify transmitters he doesn’t understand, and on one memorable occasion, returning them covered in jam -
MAXINE MYERS: There had been an emergency, Janine.
JANINE DE LUCA: A jam emergency? This is by the by. The point is I have some information that might be useful to Mister Yao. I, too, have been -
MAXINE MYERS: [sighs] Great work, Runner Five. Now you’re going to walk for 30 seconds.
JANINE DE LUCA: I said I, too, have been in contact with some of those tiny settlements. I’ve even developed a rudimentary code system with some of them, to enable secret Rofflenet transmissions, based on shared secret.
MAXINE MYERS: That’s interesting.
JANINE DE LUCA: Well, quite. Several of us have been concerned that someone is orchestrating a stealing of supplies.
MAXINE MYERS: [sighs] Time to speed up to a run now, Five. Run!
MAXINE MYERS: Now stop running and do those six heel lifts.
JANINE DE LUCA: Well, you see what I’m saying? I could be useful, eliminating lines of inquiry, ensuring that Runner Five here doesn’t have to travel to every outlying settlement.
MAXINE MYERS: That certainly does sound… interesting. I’ll mention it to Sam. 30 seconds of walking now, Five.
JANINE DE LUCA: If Mister Yao does want to take me up on my offer, he should let me know which settlements he wants me to contact.
MAXINE MYERS: Yeah, I’m sure he will. Only two more after this one, Five. One minute of running, let’s go.
MAXINE MYERS: Now do your six heel lifts. Keep strong.
MAXINE MYERS: I’m curious, Janine, what’s brought on this display of generosity?
JANINE DE LUCA: I’m a very generous person.
MAXINE MYERS: Yeah, you’re known for your love of sharing your extensive personal quarters with all of us here crammed into dorms.
JANINE DE LUCA: I…
MAXINE MYERS: Almost there, Five. Thirty seconds of walking, now.
JANINE DE LUCA: I know you all think I’m some kind of ogre. I do what’s necessary to keep this house running smoothly.
MAXINE MYERS: Mm. Speed up and give me a minute of running, Five. You’re doing great.
MAXINE MYERS: Good! Six heel lifts, now. They’ll strengthen your legs and make you a better runner.
JANINE DE LUCA: If it makes you feel better, Doctor Myers, just call it a test of my comms systems.
MAXINE MYERS: We–! I know Sam will be grateful, Janine, whatever the reason.
JANINE DE LUCA: I, um… yes! I must be getting back now. And do pass Mister Yao my best wishes. For a speedy recovery.
MAXINE MYERS: I will, Janine. I will.
MAXINE MYERS: Okay, perfect! Last drill now, Runner Five. 30 seconds of walking.
MAXINE MYERS: Hmm. Is she gone? [sighs] I can never understand Janine. I always feel like she’s hiding something, but then sometimes she’s nice as pie. And she and Runner Eight – oh, yeah, you’ll meet Runner Eight and see what I mean. Okay, that’s good. Now it’s time for your last 60-second running drill. Go.
MAXINE MYERS: And finally, give me those six heel lifts again. You’ve done well out here today, Runner Five. And as for Janine, I guess we’ll see, huh?
MAXINE MYERS: That’s great! Now we’re going straight into our free-form running. We’re going to do two 10-minute free-form runs with 5 minutes of recovery and stretching between them. I’ll time you. Remember, run as much as you can, but you can walk, run, or a mixture, and keep some energy for your second one. Go!
MAXINE MYERS: Two minutes down! You’re going well.
MAXINE MYERS: Four minutes done. Keep on going, Five.
MAXINE MYERS: Five minutes done. You’re halfway through!
MAXINE MYERS: Seven and a half minutes gone. You’re almost there!
MAXINE MYERS: Just one more minute.
MAXINE MYERS: Great! Now take five minutes to stretch out and recover, and then we’re going again.
MAXINE MYERS: Okay, Five, your recovery and stretching time is up. Make sure your stance is good. Get ready to run, and – I feel like I should have a starting gun, but I don’t. So instead, just go!
MAXINE MYERS: There’s two and a half minutes. A quarter of the way there.
MAXINE MYERS: That’s five minutes. Halfway done, you’re going great.
MAXINE MYERS: Only two minutes to go. Keep up the pace!
MAXINE MYERS: Just 30 more seconds. You’re doing so well, Runner Five.
MAXINE MYERS: Okay, Runner Five, you’re done for the day. That was good work today, you’re really improving fast. Take a few minutes now to cool down and stretch. Don’t want sore muscles tomorrow.
JANINE DE LUCA: I -
MAXINE MYERS: Hey! Where did you spring from?
JANINE DE LUCA: For goodness’ sake, Doctor Myers, I was just hidden by the shower tent. On the subject of which, I’ve brought Runner Five a gift, to say thanks in advance. I’m sure eventually you’ll be bringing me lots of valuable technology.
MAXINE MYERS: That’s… very kind of you. [whispers] Do you see what I mean? She is a strange woman. [out loud] Okay, hit the shower, Five, and we’ll workout again the day after tomorrow.
