A Nice Surprise[]
You overhear Doctor Myers and Sam discussing someone's rehabilitation. When they realise you're on comms, they fill you in on the recovery of the runners who suffered from smoke inhalation. Sam hints that you may get a nice surprise on your run today, which prompts he and the Doctor to discuss Runner Four's birthday party, which was interrupted by a zombie.

Runner 4 surprises you while you're running. Sam admonishes her for scaring you with her zombie impression. Runner 4 tells you he's still upset about the old Runner 5 dying, and you should be nice to him.
An Honour[]
Doctor Myers congratulates you on finishing your second training run. Sam offers you the old Runner 5's backpack as a reward. The Doctor says he shouldn't give it away, but he insists.

MAXINE MYERS: Oh no, he’s doing much better! Runner Eight and Janine have been helping him walk. Hmm, you know those two are thick as thieves, and uh -
SAM YAO: [whispers] Uh, we’re live to Runner Five.
MAXINE MYERS: Oh! [laughs] Sorry, Runner Five. Um, I’m not used to this equipment.
SAM YAO: It’s okay. You’ve got me to deal with all of that for you.
MAXINE MYERS: The uh, good news is that those runners who inhaled the toxic smoke are out of danger. They’re going to be okay, but it’ll be a long, slow recovery period, so we still need you to work hard for Abel, Five.
SAM YAO: And yeah, there might be, uh…
MAXINE MYERS: What?
SAM YAO: Well, didn’t I tell you? Apparently – [whispers to MAXINE MYERS, who laughs] Well, anyway, they wanted to encourage Five, so you might get a bit of company today, Five. It’ll be a surprise.
MAXINE MYERS: Oh yeah, we all know the thing we all want most in a zombie apocalypse is a surprise.
SAM YAO: A nice surprise!
MAXINE MYERS: That’s what they said at Runner Four’s birthday, remember?
SAM YAO: [laughs] Oh yeah. [sighs] With the “surprise!” and the [imitates zombie growl, laughs] Everyone’s fine, though, right?
MAXINE MYERS: Yeah. They got the zom, and there were some minor cake-related injuries. [laughs] Okay, Five. We’re doing the same workout today that we did last time. We’ll do each workout three times, so just one more of these, and you’ll be ready to move on. Remember how we start, just a 10-minute walk around Abel? Walk briskly, try to be a little out of breath, but don’t push yourself too hard. I’ll tell you when 10 minutes are up, and then we’ll start running drills.
MAXINE MYERS: That’s three minutes, Runner Five. You’re doing well.
MAXINE MYERS: Five minutes. You’re halfway.
MAXINE MYERS: Eight minutes done. Nearly there!
MAXINE MYERS: And that’s your 10 minutes up! Now, I’m going to give you the walk/run drills. When I say run, run slowly, remembering not to use up all your energy. You’re going to be running for 15 seconds, and then walking for 1 minute, ten times. I’ll tell you when to run.
MAXINE MYERS: Okay, run! Slow running, remember?
MAXINE MYERS: Now slow down to a walk.
MAXINE MYERS: Now run again.
MAXINE MYERS: Now walk. You’re doing great.
MAXINE MYERS: Time for another quick run. Run!
MAXINE MYERS: Now walk and get your breath back.
MAXINE MYERS: More running. You can do it!
MAXINE MYERS: That’s great! Stop running and walk.
MAXINE MYERS: Imagine a zom’s after you – [imitates zombie groan] Run!
MAXINE MYERS: And slow to a walk. You’re halfway through these drills. You’re doing great!
MAXINE MYERS: Now speed up to a run.
MAXINE MYERS: Slow down again to a walk, Runner Five.
MAXINE MYERS: Time to go! Run! Imagine that zom’s right on your tail! [imitates zombie groan]
MAXINE MYERS: And slow down again to a walk. Just three more drills to go.
MAXINE MYERS: Time for another quick run. Go!
MAXINE MYERS: That’s good work, Runner Five! Slow to a walk.
MAXINE MYERS: Nearly there! Run!
MAXINE MYERS: Only one more run to go now, Five. Slow down to a walk now.
MAXINE MYERS: Last one. Give it all you’ve got. Run!
MAXINE MYERS: That’s excellent work, Runner Five. Before you know it, you’ll be running much further.
MAXINE MYERS: Here’s the last training exercise for today: take a 10-minute free-form run. Remember, it’s up to you how much you run or walk. If you’re tired, just walk. If you’ve got more gas in the tank, try some short runs. I know you’ve been heading around the rec yard, but why not head out around Abel itself, now? 10-minute free-form run. Go.
MAXINE MYERS: That’s great! You’ve done three minutes.
JODY MARSH: [imitates zombie growl] Boo!
SAM YAO: [gasps] Don’t do that to Runner Five!
JODY MARSH: Sorry, Sam. Just wanted to say hi to Runner Five. After all, I’m Runner Four. It’s practically like we’re siblings!
SAM YAO: But I’ve told you about making zom noises, though. Through the headset, I can’t tell if it’s -
JODY MARSH: Don’t mind him. [whispers] He’s still sad about the old Runner Five. Be nice to him. [out loud] See you, Five! I started out just like you, and the Doc whipped me into shape! We’ll be out running together soon enough!
MAXINE MYERS: Halfway there. Five minutes to go.
MAXINE MYERS: Just two minutes to go, now. Keep going.
MAXINE MYERS: Okay, Runner Five, you’re done for the day. Cool down now and do some stretches. Sam, did you have a little something for Runner Five?
SAM YAO: Uh, yeah. I, um…
MAXINE MYERS: No, Sam, you can’t give that away. You -
SAM YAO: Look, she’s not going to need it anymore, okay? And it’s not like I go out running. It should go to a runner.
MAXINE MYERS: It’s too soon, Sam.
SAM YAO: I have to move on. Isn’t that what they say? Use it well, okay? Pick up good stuff once you’re out there. Get sports bras. She always said a woman shouldn’t go running without a good sports bra.
MAXINE MYERS: Okay, okay. Take a day or two off running now, Five. We’ll see you back here in a couple of days.
