Pre-apocalypse[]
Tess claims to have been a computer science student at Manning College.[1]
Season 1[]
Tess is among the people saved by Runners Five and Eight after Brunswick experiences a major fire followed by a large horde of zombies.[2]
Tess decides to relocate to Abel rather than stay and rebuild Brunswick. At some point Tess is contacted by New Canton and offered luxuries such as private quarters, unlimited hot water, and fresh fruit rations in exchange for stealing some technology and information from Abel. Tess works to gain Janine's trust by helping her with repairs. Tess hears from Ed about a pair of working motorbikes located at a diner halfway between Abel and New Canton.[1]
After Janine gives Tess the key to the communications storeroom, Tess steals three laptops and several storage devices and attempts to sneak out of Abel. However, Roman notices Tess heading towards the gates with a full backpack, which is suspicious to him, so he raises the alarm. Tess runs for the motorbikes, but Janine sends Runner Five and Runner Eight after her. The runners catch up to Tess and Eight knocks her out. They take Tess to the upper floor of a nearby shed and leave her with a weapon to defend herself, then take the stolen goods back to Abel.[1]
