Runners are important assets to a settlement. They venture beyond the safety of the walls to gather supplies, run reconnaissance, and escort non-runners outside the settlement. Due to the nature of their job, they are fit and generally know basic self-defense. Runners are often ex-military or otherwise athletic people.
Typically, a runner will wear a headset in order to communicate with their radio operator, who guides them throughout their current mission by providing directions and alerting runners of imminent threats such as approaching zombies or environmental hazards. Runners usually carry a backpack and and some form of self-defense (like an axe or a firearm). They sometimes carry noisemakers, which are used to get the attention of or lure away packs of zombies.
Runners are generally well-liked and popular among residents of their home settlements because of the heroic nature of their work.
In Abel Township, you must be at least sixteen years old to become a runner.[1]
