- For the Season 10 character, see New Canton Runner Five (Season 10).
Runner Five is a member of the Permanent Advisory Council in New Canton. This character is sometimes referred to as New Canton Runner Five (or simply Canton Five) in order to avoid confusion with Abel Township's Runner Five.
The player takes on the role of New Canton Runner Five in the Season 1 New Canton Race Missions as well as several missions in Season 2.
Much like the other Runner Five, this Runner Five has no canonical name, gender, race, or nationality.
History[]
Season One[]
Runner Five and Runner Twenty, Archie Jensen, head out to the Keeley Centre to search for equipment. Their operator, Nadia Al Hanaki, alerts them that another runner is heading towards the same building. Five heads into the trees to watch with Archie following close behind. Soon a helicopter marked with Pandora Haze logos appears. The other runner flees from the building carrying a file and a man emerges from the helicopter. Archie recognizes him as Professor Van Ark. Van Ark and several soldiers carry boxes of equipment and files out of the Keeley Centre before destroying the building with rocket launchers. The helicopter takes off. Archie and Five chase after it long enough to see that it's heading north.[1]
Nadia sends Five and Archie to Steve Reeves Hospital to talk with some scientists who used to work at the Keeley Centre. When they arrive, they discover that the hospital has been nearly destroyed and all of the scientists have been killed. All but one - Monica Kaye, who is injured but still alive. Monica explains how soldiers from Pandora Haze arrived at the hospital, attacked the scientists, and destroyed their research. She warns them that Van Ark mentioned he will be targeting New Canton next. Five and Archie attempt to bring Monica to safety, but she admits that she has been bitten and asks them to kill her. After a moment of hesitation, Archie agrees and shoots her. Five and Archie return to New Canton where Nadia tells them to rest up: soon they'll be heading off to the Jeffro Complex, where Pandora Haze has made their base.[2]
Five and Archie are sent out as part of New Canton's assault on the Jeffro Complex. Nadia directs Runner Five to place six devices around the perimeter of the building, with Archie running interference. The devices allow them to hear the conversations inside the walls. They hear Van Ark confirm that he is planning to attack New Canton. The Permanent Advisory Council makes their vote: those six devices are also bombs, and they are ready to detonate them. They just need Runner Five's vote to continue. Archie is concerned about the Abel Township runners who are also at Jeffro, so Runner Five decides to set off the furthest bomb first, giving the Abel runners the chance to escape. Nadia relays that the PAC has agreed with Five's decision; there is no need to further antagonize Abel before New Canton's raid against them.[3]
Season Two[]
Runner Five leaves New Canton on a mission to London for several months.[4]
In London, Five meets up with Robbie. He leads them into the Underground where they are drilling into a Comansys vault. Once the vault is open, Five, Robbie, and Diana head inside. They find a device. Diana pulls out a gun and orders Robbie to step away from it. When he doesn't, she shoots and kills him. Diana then turns to Five, but they manage to trap her in the room and escape with the device.[5]
Season Three[]
Personality[]
New Canton Runner Five has a reputation for being stoic and refraining from speaking on missions. Archie admits that she finds Five a bit intimidating. Lem described Five as "cold".[1]
Five is highly respected as both a runner and a member of the Permanent Advisory Council. Five is known for being a skilled strategist and making good plans.[3]
