Ephraim Whately is a very religious man who believes that the zombie apocalypse is the work of God. He is the older brother of Patty Whately.
History[]
Early Apocalypse[]
Ephraim and Patty travel from town to town, spreading their belief that the apocalypse is the work of God.[1]
Ephraim and Patty ran towards New Canton when they were being chased by a pack of zombies, but New Canton locked them out.[1]
Ephraim and Patty acquired an impressive stash of weaponry after a military transport was eaten by zombies. They found guns, ammunition, grenades, flashbangs, and body armour, and stored it all in the cellar of an abandoned house.[1]
Ephraim and Patty took on various jobs for the people at the Jeffro Complex. They would gather, fetch, and carry things in exchange for food, clean water, and medicine. Patty paid attention to the movement of the cameras around the Jeffro Complex and learned all of the blind spots.[1]
Season One[]
Patty gets bitten by a zombie, but before she turns she is placed in cryogenic stasis at the Jeffro Complex and hooked up to a plasmapheresis machine to clean her blood of the infection. Professor Van Ark promises Ephraim that he can have Patty back if he does some work for him. Ephraim takes Van Ark at his word and leads Maxine Myers, Runner Five, and Sara Smith into Van Ark's trap at the Jeffro Complex.[1]
Season Two[]
Van Ark breaks his promise to cure Patty and instead uses her as a soldier. When Ephraim learns of this, he runs away - but before he leaves he hears about Van Ark's spy inside of Abel Township, as well as his plans for a massive zombie army to attack Abel and New Canton. Ephraim sends out a message to Abel Township, hoping to meet up with them and tell them what he knows, but Van Ark sends his soldiers after him. While fleeing, Ephraim does meet up with two runners from Abel: Runner Five and Sara Smith, who are less than thrilled to see him again after his previous betrayal. But they agree to help when he tells them he knows about a traitor. They manage to escape from the soldiers, but Ephraim is shot and begins bleeding heavily. He can no longer run, so Five and Sara help him into a boat and push him away from shore. As the boat floats away, Ephraim tells them that the traitor is the one who the "Major loves best of all".[2]
It is unknown whether or not Ephraim survived his injuries.
