S03E47 A Blue Flower
For the Season 3 artefact, see A Blue Flower.

The blue flowers, sometimes called calming plants, are a specific type of plant which causes zombies to become more docile. The plants' stems have blue-tipped thorns. The blue flowers are a key ingredient of CeretinPlus.

History[]

Season Three[]

The blue flowers are seen at the warehouses where Darren is living. Cuttings of the blue flowers line the perimeter of the area, keeping the zombies away. Darren is not aware of what the flowers do. He just knows that his bosses, the Exmoor Militia, regularly place something around the buildings to repel the zombies.[1]

At the Treetop Base, Runner Five and Nadia Al Hanaki spot some blue flowers growing under the trees. Nadia points out how uncommon the color blue is in plants.[2]

Veronica McShell calls the blue flowers "calming plants" and explains that they only germinate in the forest around Treetop Base, due to the leaf mold of the rare trees there. She explains how the flowers have a calming effect on zombies and points out a group of them that have been standing still among the flowers for weeks.[3]

Veronica uses an extract from the calming plants to create a compound that can disguise a person's scent from the zombies. It works, although it is difficult to make and wears off quickly.[4]

Nadia and Five find some Comansys files containing information about the blue flowers. The files say that it has an "adverse reaction in humans" and is "seriously contra-indicated with regenerative therapies".[5]

Veronica gives some seeds for the blue flowers to Abel Township, which they begin growing in a plot under some trees. Paula climbs onto an observation platform to get a better look at them, but the platform collapses and she falls into the flowers and is scratched by the thorns. The plants have a drug-like effect on her, altering her mental state and lowering her inhibitions. Dr. Lobatse worries that the plants' toxins may cause permanent neurological damage in humans, so Paula is quickly taken to New Canton for treatment.[6]
