Battenbury, also called the Forbidden City, was a city designed for sustainable living but since the apocalypse has been overrun with zombies. A type of napalm was used that has rendered the air poisonous.

History[]

Pre-apocalypse[]

Battenbury was modeled after medieval walled cities and designed for sustainable living.[1]

Early Apocalypse[]

Battenbury was the center of one of the early outbreaks of the zombie plague. The government tried to contain the outbreak within the walls, but when that didn't work they used a form of napalm combined with several biological agents in an attempt to destroy the city completely. This left the air and ground of Battenbury poisoned.[1]

Season Four[]

Veronica McShell is abducted by a zombie and taken into Battenbury.[1]

Runner Five, Steve Sissay, Kytan, and Cameo Wood put on rebreathers and enter the city to retrieve Veronica. Inside, they see that the zombies have not been wiped out by the biological agents, but many of them seem to have been partially melted into the walls and other structures. Janine says that flesh-eating bacteria was included in the mix, and Cameo infers that the people became zombified as their flesh was dissolving. As they continue through the city, they see graffiti listing the names of former residents and how long they survived after the city to destroyed. Cameo says she heard that the military surrounded the city and shot anyone who tried to climb the wall and escape. Sam notices that there appear to be more partially-sentient (S-Type) zombies in Battenbury than anywhere else. Once Veronica is safely retrieved, the Minister bombs the city, destroying it even further.[2]
